Ricky Vandegrift

Ricky grew up on a small farm in southern Ohio. Playing in the woods, creeks and caring for the animals on the farm is where his love for the outdoors began to form. He started backpacking at the age of 12 which eventually led to thru-hiking the Appalachian, Continental Divide, Arizona, and Sheltowee trace trails. As his love for the natural world grew, Ricky decided to pursue a degree in Wildlife Management. He then took a job on the Appalachian Trail teaching Leave No Trace and backcountry ethics. Ricky also served as an Americorps member working on stream restoration projects in southern Ohio.

Ricky loves to share his passion for the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and help others to form lasting connections with our natural resources. Outside of guiding, Ricky enjoys hiking, trail running, biking and skiing with his wife Amelia and dog.

Ricky is a certified Wilderness First Responder and a certified Leave No Trace instructor.
