Holly Alvarez

Growing up in southern California, Holly took every opportunity to explore the natural world around her, from surfing the beaches of San Diego to hiking the mountains of the Sierra Nevada. This exploration was fueled by a love of wildlife and nature as a whole, and these experiences pushed her to obtain her B.S. in Zoology from UC Santa Barbara. While at school, she participated in shorebird surveys and got involved in Western Snowy Plover conservation, a passion that introduced her to a small town in the Eastern Sierra.

Her first summer out of college, she took off to that small town, Lee Vining, to lead the Canoe Naturalist program for the Mono Lake Committee. Getting to live 15 minutes from the grandeur of Yosemite meant a summer spent hiking, learning, and taking in all the mountains had to offer. It also opened her horizons to the other National Parks of the U.S. Holly spent the summer of 2023 as an Outdoor Education Specialist for the Glacier Institute. Living in Flathead National Forest, Montana was a crash course in the Crown of the Continent ecosystem – and in large mammal safety. Though the Tetons have the more famous bears, Glacier National Park has the highest concentration of grizzlies in the Lower 48. Along with her grizzly encounters, Holly loved the rest of the alpine flora and fauna, and as her passion for it grew so did her enjoyment in sharing it with others.

And that leads us to where she is now! Working for EcoTour Adventures is the perfect union of her educational background and experience with guide work. As she immerses herself in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, she hopes to share not just her knowledge on the wildlife, but her excitement for it with her guests. Holly believes that experiencing nature is the fastest way to fall in love with it, and it’s those who love nature that are the most influential in saving it.

Holly is a certified Wilderness First Responder and a University of Wyoming certified Outdoor Guide.
